4U Academics

4U Academics was a remote tutoring startup a friend and I created during Covid. We noticed the lack of teaching resources available, and many students were struggling to stay up with their courses.

The platform had two portals, a tutor portal and a student portal. The tutor could create an account and list the subject areas they specialize in. The students would then put out a request, and include the subject areas in the tag. The website would connect them and they could contact each other via an instant messaging tool built into the site. There was a scheduling tool where they could find a common time, and then a video call would be set up through the site.

I was responsible for full stack development of the site. I used React, NodeJS and Mongodb. The experience taught me a lot about managing large software projects.

It ultimately failed as the business case was not strong, and the scope quickly grew outside of what a two person team could handle.
